So last month I picked up a pair of auxilary lenses for my coolpix on eBay -- a 2x telephoto converter and a .45 wide converter. The wide brings me down from around 35mm equiv. focal length to something close to probably 24 (maybe 28). Its also got good macro capabilities, and helps get more in the frame when getting up close.
I haven't had much chance to try it out yet, so last night just after sunset I plonked it on and decided to give it a little test drive. Overall I'm pretty pleased -- there is some curvature around the edges, but not enough to be getting in to fisheye territory. This was a two-second exposure, wide open -- and it's still pretty sharp considering I was just steadying the camera against my balcony wall and no using a tripod.
For $60USD for both lenses though, it was a deal.
