I had never really explored the area North of Bloor Street on Sherbourne before, as I'd always assumed it would be rather boring and dull. It's a fairly ritzy district full of million dollar homes and fancy cars -- wonderful to own I'm sure, but rather boring to photograph. The area is known as Rosedale, and its home to much of Toronto's rich elite. Speaking in general terms, it really is a beautiful area. If you're a fan of Victorian architecture you should definately check it out. But if like me, you're more a fan of forgotten corners and grafitti'd alleys, then you can safely give it a miss.
Or at least that's what I thought up until a couple of days ago. On Saturday I had to head over to the TD bank machine to grab some cash for a few supplies at the tuck shoppe. I decided to bring my coolpix along and take a quick detour to do some shooting. This time though, I strolled across the bridge and took a peek around Rosedale. I discovered this interesting guardrail at the end of a cul-de-sac overlooking the bloor valley. It was a strange contrast between this flakey, rusty guardrail and the mansions across the street. I'm definately going to have to explore the neighbourhood a bit more next time.
And, with discovering a new place to explore, this is also my entry for this week's
Photo Friday theme, "discovery".
I'll update with the shooting data later. I took a page from Rannie's book and desaturated all of the colours in Photoshop except for the yellow of the rail.
