This spiral conveyer twists around six times, between two floors at one of the warehouses in the distillery. The area has since been converted to studio space, where
we went to check out the opening of
Melanie Gordon's Skin Deep installation, as part of
Contact (mentioned
yesterday).
I'd been looking around all day for something to shoot for the
Theme Thursday "twisted" challenge. As soon as we entered the warehouse,
Rannie turned to me, pointed and said "hey, twisted!". And as you can see, I kinda went nuts with it. ;)
On a side note, I finally picked up a new lens yesterday for my Maxxum. I've been looking for a super-wide (but not fisheye) lens for some time now, but had been discouraged by just how expensive they were. Well, happy days are here again! I was able to find a used mint Vivitar 19-35mm F3.5 zoom over at
Henry's. After pointing out that they had "new" (albeit very dusty) open-box stock of the same lens at their outlet store for same price, the sales associate offered it to me (listed at $349, on sale for $299) for $240. Now, I'd been following the same lens on eBay and this brought it back in line with my expectations. After the US conversion, duties, bidpay, and brokerage fees, it would have worked out to
maybe $5 cheaper -- except now there's no wait, no hassle, and I've got a 180 day warranty. So I took the plunge. And damn is this new lens fun. Not to mention, it'll make a pretty decent general-purpose zoom when I eventually get my
Maxxum 7 digital...
p.s. If you're ever looking for gear at Henry's, ask for
Michael Pearce. He was knowledgeable, affable, helpful, and ready to cut a deal. He went a long way to improving my opinion of the place.
